Laura Jackson

Laura Jackson is an emerging writer and performer whose passion for strong female narratives is channelled through her storytelling.

Laura's practice speaks to women's experiences in the modern world, delving into street harassment, domestic violence, online privacy, and fertility.

Since graduating from NIDA with a Bachelor of Fine Art (Acting), Laura has worked on performance and written projects, including plays, children’s books, and a novel. However, like many emerging actors, COVID-19’s halt on the performing industry has limited Laura’s audition opportunities and ability to form connections within the Australian industry.

A Cultural Trust grant will support Laura in training in the Michael Chekhov technique with acting coach and director Bethany Caputo, New York City, USA. In New York, Laura will have the opportunity to expand her creative network and understanding of the theatrical landscape.

Under the mentorship of Bethany Caputo, Laura will develop, rehearse, and perform her play The Culture, a two-hander examining the darker side of sexual culture in Australia: street harassment, domestic violence, and homophobia.

“By including working with my play as part of the mentoring process, I will receive acting training from Bethany and valuable assistance and advice to improve the play and my ability to deliver it to an audience.”
